THE IDEA
The Entebbe Junior and Cambridge international school volunteer program is about bringing teachers together for the betterment of education in Uganda. Our goal is to promote the exchange of ideas in an open environment between volunteers, teachers, and students.
HOW IT WORKS
We start with an application process. We are looking for college graduates with a passion for teaching that can come to our school and create engaging projects and classes for our students. Next, we sit down and plan out your volunteer experience. What do you want to teach at our school? How do you want to teach it? How long do you want to be here? Next, you get on a plane and come out to Entebbe Uganda. You buy the plane ticket and we provide accommodation. In the beginning of your stay we will set up your program with the local teachers at the school so you can work out the details of your plan together. At this point you will be ready to start teaching your classes, all volunteers are asked to volunteer for a minimum of 20 hours a week.
WHY IT WORKS
Both our volunteers and our local teachers, as well as our students, stand to benefit from exposure to new concepts of teaching.Throughout the course of the volunteer program, volunteers are asked to observe and comment on their experiences at the school and with local teachers. Likewise, local teachers are asked to observe and comment on their experiences with the volunteers. By setting up this environment of inclusive participation by the school, volunteers and local teachers, we can help to better the standard of education at our school and the teaching experience of our volunteers.
